Tivus has begun the phase II development of its new high-definition (HD) internet-protocol television (IPTV) in-room entertainment system in Host Hotels’ properties.
Tivus entered an agreement with Host Hotels to deploy its new HD IPTV systems in all Host properties in March 2011.
Tivus initially installed the new HD IPTV systems in nearly 900 rooms, which are currently live.
The IPTV system is ad-supported and allows hotels to migrate away from legacy video-on-demand systems while transforming the hotel’s entertainment system into a revenue centre, according to Tivus.
The IPTV technology also allows guests to order room service and make spa appointments.
Host Hotels owns 104 properties in the US and nine international hotels, comprising a total of 62,000 rooms.
