Hotel occupancy in Beirut suffered a year-on-year fall of 64.5% for the first six months of 2011, according to data from STR Global.

The country’s average hotel occupancy rate stood at 50% for the first four months of 2011, as reported in Ernst and Young’s survey of the Middle East hotel sector in May this year.

Beirut’s occupancy rates for June fell by 4.5% year-on-year and revenue per available room declined by 15.1%.

Occupancy and revenue rates in the wider Middle East region increased by 59% and 5.3%, respectively.
