A UK couple have spent more than £100,000 at the chain of Travelodge hotels because it is cheaper and safer than living in their own home, reports UK newspaper The Guardian.
Not content with fleeting holiday visits, David Davidson, 79, and his wife Jean, 70, became permanent guests at Gonerby Moor Travelodge in 1997, returning to their flat in Sheffield once a fortnight to pick up post.
The couple now book 12 months in advance to get the cheapest rates, paying an average of £90 a week which includes electricity and heating bills, laundry and bed making.
A spokesperson for Travelodge told the newspaper that the hotel is honouring the Davidson’s loyalty by renaming their room ‘The Davidson’s Suite’.
A plaque in the hotel’s reception celebrates their 10-year anniversary at the hotel.
