The UK hotel market is set to benefit from traveller’s increased desire to holiday with their pets, market intelligence firm Euromonitor International says.

In the 2007 WTM Global Trends Report, released today at the World Travel Market exhibition in London, Euromonitor says demand is growing for pet-friendly holiday packages and hotels.

Euromonitor global and tourism research manager Clement Wong says the UK’s domestic tourism industry will benefit from the rise of the pet travel sector, as quarantine restrictions can make it difficult for owners to take their pet overseas.

“Considering the success in the US of PAW (Pets are Welcome) offered at Starwood’s W hotels, it may not be too long before other international hotel groups recognise the business potential,” Wong says.

“With the amount of consumer attention on the UK pet population showing no signs of abating and with holiday-taking expected to remain an integral part of consumer lifestyles, pet travel will enjoy continuous growth in the next five years.”

Services offered by pet-friendly UK hotels include food and water bowls, pet cuisine, ID tags and luxury pet beds.
