Hotels in the islands of Visayas, Philippines, have slashed room rates in a bid to attract more guests following huge cancellations of bookings over the 23 August hostage crisis in Manila.

Resorts and hotels in Boracay Island and Cebu cut room rates by up to 70% to recover lost income.

A hotel representative said that most of the guests who cancelled plans are from China, however, now the hotels are targeting European nationals.

At least 500 tourists from Hong Kong and China cancelled their trips to Boracay after eight Hong Kong tourists died in the hostage crisis, according to abs-cbnnews.com.
