Hotel room rates in the Canadian city of Montreal were up 7% in the second quarter of 2010 compared with the same period last year, according to the Hotel Price Index.

The city’s average room rate stood at $145, while other Canadian cities such as Vancouver recorded a 4% rise to $147 while Toronto registered a room rate of $133 per night.

Montreal was ranked as the eighth most expensive city for Canadians travelling within their own country, while Quebec was 12th with a rate of $138 per night.
