Safety concerns and protests by a community activist group have stalled the expansion of the Hotel del Coronado in California, US.
Concerned Citizens for Keeping the Hotel del Beautiful is protesting against the design because it prevents the public from seeing the historic hotel from the street.
Due to a fault in the previous design, the new design outlined plans to build all the rooms in one building.
The $180m expansion, if approved, will add 144 four-star rooms and a conference centre.
The California Coastal Commission will review the project once more and will announce its decision next week.
The hotel expansion project will take five years to complete, according to local sources.
