A joint venture between Behringer Harvard Opportunity and JMI Realty has acquired the 311-room Aston Kauai Beach at Makaiwa in Hawaii.

Behringer Harvard senior vice-president Richard Frank said the hotel will be repositioned to more effectively capitalise on existing demand in today’s market.

Davidson Hotel Company will now manage the hotel.

JMI Realty chief investment officer Greg Clay said the hotel will be rebranded as a Courtyard by Marriott hotel and renamed Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Coconut Beach.

The hotel underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation from 2003 to 2006 and features Polynesian designs throughout.

Hotel includes a spa, a swimming pool and whirlpool spa, a fitness centre, a 272-seat restaurant and open-air lounge, tennis courts, a business centre and six meeting rooms.
