Thai hotel operator Centara Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to open its first two resort hotels in Sri Lanka in 2012, which will become part of the company’S core brand of four-star properties.
Centara will operate the two hotels, the Centara Passikudah Resort & Spa Sri Lanka and the Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa, under a management contract.
The 126-room Centara Passikudah Resort & Spa Sri Lanka offers room types including superior, deluxe and premium deluxe, family residence and suites, and will feature Spa Cenvaree, a fitness centre, and a kids’ club.
Besides having a restaurant and a bar lounge, the hotel will also feature Spice Market Restaurant and Elements, as well as a ballroom, which can accommodate up to 150 guests and is complemented by audio visual equipment.
The 166-room Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa offers room types including superior, deluxe, deluxe pool access, family residences and suites. It also features restaurants, a kids’ club and Spa Cenvaree with six treatment rooms.
Centara Hotels & Resorts chief executive officer Thirayuth Chirathivat said the two properties will mark the company’s first foray into the Sri Lankan hotel market.
"They are an important stage in our development strategy for the Indian Ocean," Chirathivat added.
According to the company, the two hotels will open in time for Sri Lanka’s tourism high season in 2012.
Centara Hotels & Resorts has 37 deluxe properties in Thailand and 17 resorts in the Maldives, Philippines, Vietnam, Bali, Sri Lanka and Mauritius Indian Ocean, bringing the total number of properties to 54.
