Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, an American hotel and restaurant company, plans to open its first Caribbean hotel on the Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, in 2016.

The boutique-style hotel will be developed by Dart Realty (Cayman) and managed by Kimpton.

"Grand Cayman, with its pristine beaches, world famous diving and diverse, sophisticated melting pot of cultures, made this particular island an especially good fit for a debut of the Kimpton experience in the Caribbean."

The hotel building team includes SB Architects, Powerstrip Studio and Mark Zeff Design, where Powerstrip will perform interior designing.

The 263-room Kimpton resort will feature five restaurants and lounges, an oceanfront pool, a spa, and an indoor and outdoor meeting and function space.

Surrounded by natural landscaping, native flora, gardens and green spaces, the property will also include 56 residences and six beachfront bungalows.

Kimpton CEO Mike Depatie said expanding into the Caribbean was an easy decision for the company due to its strong presence in major feeder markets such as South Florida, New York, Washington DC, Chicago and Dallas.

"Grand Cayman, with its pristine beaches, world famous diving and diverse, sophisticated melting pot of cultures, made this particular island an especially good fit for a debut of the Kimpton experience in the Caribbean," Depatie added.

Dart Realty chief operating officer Jackie Doak said that Kimpton offers stylish yet comfortable hotels and provides genuine, unscripted guest experiences.

"Perhaps most importantly, we felt that Kimpton’s expertise in creating hotels and restaurants that are distinctly ‘of the place’ in the markets in which they operate, made them an ideal partner for creating a truly modern Caribbean resort and residences that embody the charm of a tropical paradise that is also a world financial centre," Doak added.

In addition to the upcoming Grand Cayman resort hotel, Kimpton plans to open a hotel each at Palm Spring in California and at Savannah in Georgia.

The San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants’ current portfolio of hotels includes the Firesky Hotel & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona; the Amara Resort & Spa in Sedona, Arizona; the Surfcomber Beach Resort in South Beach, Miami; the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa in Vero Beach, Florida; the Hotel La Jolla in San Diego, California; the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara, California; and the Sky Hotel in Aspen, Colorado.
