Starwood’s Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts has reopened the Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian, Spain, following a $25m renovation.
The renovation is part of Starwood’s strategy to invest in the restoration of its Luxury Collection hotels.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East president Roeland Vos, commenting on the reopening, said: "As part of Starwood’s strategy to strengthen our Luxury Collection brand portfolio, we are making major investments to renovate and restore some of our most iconic hotels."
The nine-month project was led by Idom Engineering & Architecture, while the interiors have been restored by HBA Design.
The restoration of the 107-room Hotel Maria Cristina, which offers 29 suites, focused on feminine touches added within its existing framework to create a sense of comfort.
The hotel introduced Tse Yang, a Chinese restaurant, Easo Restaurant and Dry San Sebastian bar, a joint collaboration between Hotel Maria Cristina and the Dry Martini Group, after its restoration.
The public spaces of the hotel accommodate high ceilings, marble pillars and a grey and white Carrara marble floor.
According to the hotel operator, the reopening follows close behind that of Hotel Alfonso XIII, a Luxury Collection hotel in Seville, which underwent a renovation earlier in 2012.
2013 will witness the opening of the restored Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection hotel in Paris, and The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection hotel in Venice.
