
Marriott International is planning to expand its presence in North America with the opening of its first Courtyard by Marriott brand hotel in the capital city of Chihuahua, Mexico.
The hospitality group has already signed the hotel development project with a group of local investors from Chihuahua.
The new hotel will be located inside the Citadela Life Style Center – Distrito Uno complex, which is a 65,000m² mixed-use development that includes prime office space, residences, a casino, shops and more than 20 restaurants. It is expected to be opened in April 2015.
The new Courtyard by Marriott hotel has 138 rooms and features a business lobby, a lobby bar, a casual dining restaurant, flexible meeting space and recreational facilities like a swimming pool and sauna.
In addition, the hotel will also feature the brand’s new modern guestroom design.
Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Chihuahua principal shareholder Don Jaime Creel Sisniega said: "The Courtyard by Marriott brand was a perfect fit for this hotel and, combined with Marriott’s backbone and sales engine, we are confident that the hotel will be highly successful and play a large role in the continued emergence of city of Chihuahua."
Marriott International Caribbean and Latin America president Craig Smith said the new hotel in Chihuahua will be a significant milestone in the group’s rapid expansion across Mexico.
"The property will feature a modern, functional design while embracing Mexico’s vibrant culture and the amenities travellers trust from our globally renowned Marriott International brands," Smith said.
Marriott International Caribbean and Mexico development vice-president Alejandro Acevedo said: "Chihuahua is known for its large presence of national and international manufacturing facilities, making the hotel’s central location an excellent option for the modern business traveller."
The hospitality group currently has 900 sites in 37 countries under the Courtyard brand, while the group owns around 3,900 properties in 72 countries and territories, which have been reported to generate revenues of about $12bn in fiscal 2012.
