Marriott International will launch two of its brands, Fairfield Inn and Courtyard, in Brazil, with the opening of hotels in Rio Grande do Sul and Parana.
The group has signed an agreement with real estate development and construction company Prisma Engenharia to open a Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, and a Fairfield Inn by Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott in Curitiba, Parana.
Marriott International president and CEO Arne Sorenson said, "As Brazil is developing at rapid speeds, the country’s middle class continues to grow and travel more and more, and needing reliable, high quality accommodations throughout the country.
"These three new properties reaffirm the company’s commitment to Brazil and mark the start of our aggressive growth plans in the country."
The two Fairfield Inn hotels will be opened in the first half of 2014 to coincide with the FIFA World Cup; the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Porto Alegre will have 165 rooms, while the property in Curitiba will have 160 rooms.
The Courtyard by Marriott in Curitiba is scheduled to open in early 2015, and will feature 158 guestrooms, a business lobby, a casual dining restaurant, meeting space, a swimming pool and a fitness centre.
Marriott International chief development officer in the Caribbean and Latin America Laurent de Kousemaeker said, "Both Porto Alegre and Curitiba are in the top ten markets of the 24 Brazilian cities we are targeting for our mid-market brands."
Prisma Engenharia owns 14 hotels in southern Brazil and the current Marriott properties will be the second project with the group after the 128-room Hotel & Spa do Vinho Caudalie, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, in Bento Goncalves, Rio Grande do Sul.
Marriott currently operates the Renaissance Sao Paulo Hotel, JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo Airport Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments Sao Paulo and the Hotel & Spa do Vinho Caudalie in Brazil.
