Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is to expand its Aloft Hotels brand portfolio with the opening of Aloft Tuscon University hotel in Tuscon, Arizona on 4 April 2013.
The former Four Points by Sheraton property, owned by Starwood Hotels, underwent significant renovations as part of its conversion to the Aloft brand.
Located next to the University of Arizona campus, and near Tuscon International Airport and entertainment venues such as Centennial Hall and TCC Music Hall, the Aloft Tuscon University hotel offers guests 154 rooms and amenities such as an outdoor pool, w xyz sm bar, fitness centre and 1,723ft² of meeting space for business and social gatherings.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide global development president Simon Turner said the conversion of Four Points by Sheraton into an Aloft hotel is the company’s second conversion after the recent opening of Aloft San Francisco Airport (SFO).
"We are great believers in the conversion opportunity for the Aloft brand and we have had very positive feedback from developers who have seen what we have accomplished," Turner added.
"These two conversion projects have proven that a fully on-brand Aloft can be created from an existing hotel property at a cost that provides attractive returns to owners."
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide specialty select brands senior vice president Brian McGuinness said, "Conversion projects like this one are becoming an increasingly important growth channel for the Aloft brand, allowing us to enter even more markets, more quickly as we move closer to the 75th hotel milestone."
The Aloft Tucson University joins other Aloft conversion projects including Aloft San Francisco Airport, Aloft Nashville West End and Aloft Dallas Downtown.
North America-based Aloft Hotels has a portfolio of more than 60 hotels in ten countries around the world.
