Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is set to launch its W Hotels brand in the Netherlands with the opening of the new W Amsterdam.
Scheduled to open in autumn 2015, the hotel will be located on the Dam Square in the centre of Amsterdam, behind the Royal Palace, and will be owned by STAG Europe.
W Amsterdam will have 169 guestrooms including ten suites and one Extreme Wow Suite, which is the W brand’s version of the Presidential Suite.
Check-in will be located on the rooftop, where guests can also enjoy a drink in the W Living Room – the brand’s take on the hotel lobby. The property will also feature a rooftop restaurant and destination bar offering views over Dam Square and the city lights.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and Middle East president Michael Wale said the group is proud to bring the W brand to Amsterdam as it continues to grow the brand in primary markets throughout Europe and worldwide.
"The vibrancy and energy of Amsterdam combined with its strong cultural offering makes the perfect backdrop for the W brand, which will bring a new style of modern luxury to the Dutch hotel scene," Wale added.
W Amsterdam will also have 480m² of modern meeting and event space including two Great Rooms and two smaller meeting rooms along with a FIT state-of-the-art fitness centre and WIRED 24hr business centre.
STAG Europe owner and CEO Liran Wizman said the company is delighted to be working with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
"With its exceptional reputation as an innovative lifestyle brand, W Hotels will further cement Amsterdam’s position as a world-class destination for international travellers and global jet-setters alike," Wizman added.
The new property will be housed in a former Telephone Exchange building built in the Amsterdam School style of architecture that will be re-designed by OFFICE WINHOV of Amsterdam and Tel Aviv-based BK Architecture.
STAG Europe owner-representative Europe Hotels Private Collection regional managing director Bram van der Hoek said, "Following the renovation and refurbishment of this landmark building, W Amsterdam will be a vibrant and energetic destination where guests and locals get together to mix, mingle and engage."
W Amsterdam will become the seventh W Hotel in Europe and will be part of 45 W Hotels around the world, while over 20 properties are in the pipeline.
