Westin Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, will open a new hotel, the Westin Doha Hotel & Spa, in Qatar in late 2014.

The new hotel, which will be owned by Ghanem Al Thani Holdings, will be built on a 49,000m² site in the city’s central business district and will be in close proximity to the Museum of Islamic Art, Education City and the Al Mushreib rejuvenation project in Doha’s downtown area.

Westin Doha Hotel & Spa will have 365 guest rooms including 92 executive rooms, five private bungalows and two presidential suites, all of which will feature the Westin Heavenly Bed and modern in-room technology.

The property will have five dining venues including an all-day restaurant, a grill and Thai restaurant as well as a jazz cocktail and sports bar.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and Middle East president Michael Wale said that Qatar has positioned itself as a business, transit and diplomatic hub on the global tourism map.

"The time is right to strengthen our presence in the country with the new Westin Doha Hotel & Spa, further underscoring our commitment to growing in this part of the world," Wale added.

"We are excited to introduce our Westin brand to Qatar as we continue to grow its footprint in the Middle East and get closer to our 200th Westin Hotel milestone this year."

The new property will feature around 2,900m² of event space including a ballroom and ten meeting rooms and a fully-equipped business centre for large-scale meetings and festive occasions.

The hotel will also feature a Heavenly Spa by Westin with ten treatment rooms and an array of treatments, plus three pools and a WestinWORKOUT with cardio and weight training equipment.

Signature Westin amenities at the hotel include the SuperFoodsRX menu with food combinations designed to be rich in nutrients, antioxidants and flavour.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and Middle East acquisitions and development senior vice president Bart Carnahan said, "We are excited to introduce our Westin brand to Qatar as we continue to grow its footprint in the Middle East and get closer to our 200th Westin Hotel milestone this year."

Starwood, which currently has nearly 1,200 properties in 100 countries, and 171,000 employees at its owned and managed properties, plans to introduce the Westin brand in Dubai, Makkah and Aqaba over the next few years.
