Accor has signed a new master franchise agreement with Sunmei Digital Intelligence Group to debut and grow the Mövenpick by Accor brand in China.

The two companies plan to open more than 400 Mövenpick by Accor smart technology hotels across the country. This would represent over 60,000 guestrooms.

Sunmei Digital Intelligence Group will serve as Accor’s exclusive strategic partner for Mövenpick by Accor branded hotels in China.

Under the new agreement, the first Mövenpick by Accor will open in Qingdao city of eastern Shandong Province in 2023.

The agreement will enable Mövenpick by Accor brand to scale up rapidly in China.

Sunmei’s technological and digital capabilities, along with Accor’s expertise in the hospitality sector is expected to create a strong growth trajectory for the premium brand in the country.

Sunmei Digital Intelligence Group chairman Ma Yingyao said: “The collaboration with Accor marks a key milestone for Sunmei and is fully aligned with our group development strategy,” said Ma Yingyao.

“This key partnership represents our launch into premium hospitality and will usher in a new growth curve for our long-term business sustainability.”

Mövenpick has over 150 hotels and resorts either in operation and under development around the globe.

Some of the smart technologies being provided in the hotels include facial recognition for quick check-in and security access to guestrooms; customised controls for energy-efficiency.
