IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened InterContinental The Red Sea Resort on Shura Island, Saudi Arabia, expanding its luxury and lifestyle portfolio.

InterContinental The Red Sea Resort is among the first hotels to open in the island, which forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative aimed at developing the country’s tourism sector.

Shura Island is a major part of The Red Sea destination project. Foster + Partners developed the design with the Coral Bloom concept, combining hotels, homes, and leisure facilities aimed at meeting sustainability standards.

The InterContinental resort expands the brand’s global presence and marks its seventh luxury property in Saudi Arabia’s western region.

It combines 210 rooms and suites starting at 50m² with access to marine environments, as well as recreational and dining facilities for guests.

InterContinental collaborated with neuroscience-based designer Isabelle Sjövall to integrate design elements that reflect contemporary approaches to hospitality, focusing on environmental factors.

Foster + Partners designed the resort with interiors by Kristina Zanic Consultants.

The building has achieved LEED BD+C Platinum certification, indicating adherence to international sustainability standards.

Architectural features include curved facades and organic materials, while local Saudi artworks are displayed throughout the property.

Amenities available at the resort include various dining options and Club InterContinental, offering private check-in and exclusive benefits.

For children and teenagers, Planet Trekkers club hosts activities based on marine and outdoor themes.

The SPA InterContinental will offer well-being programmes such as hydrotherapy treatments, massages and yoga under open-air domes.

On-site concierge services are also offered to facilitate cultural exploration through sailing, cycling excursions and diving activities along the Red Sea coral reefs.

InterContinental The Red Sea Resort joins more than 235 InterContinental-branded hotels operating across more than 70 countries worldwide.

Its opening follows InterContinental Jeddah and Six Senses Southern Dunes; future additions are set to include Regent Jeddah and Six Senses Amaala.
