The citizenM portfolio currently has 37 hotels, with a total of 8,789 rooms across locations in the US, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

It also has a pipeline of two properties, featuring over 300 rooms, which will also join Marriott’s collection.

The agreement for this acquisition was signed earlier this year.

Marriott International president and CEO Anthony Capuano said: “As travellers continue to seek innovative lodging offerings that blend technology with genuine, people-first hospitality, the citizenM brand is the perfect addition to our portfolio.

“Marriott has proven success in growing select-service lifestyle offerings, including our AC, Moxy, and Aloft brands, and we look forward to accelerating citizenM’s global reach with our guests and Marriott Bonvoy members around the world.”

Marriott now embarks on the integration of citizenM into its systems and platforms.

Until the integration is fully realised, projected to occur later this year, citizenM’s hotels will remain accessible via the brand’s digital channels.

The citizenM subscription programme will maintain its current benefits, with future details to be announced regarding its post-integration operation.

Upon completion, citizenM will be incorporated into the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme.

Established in 2008, the brand appeals to a segment of “value-conscious” travellers who value tech-powered accommodations.

Distinctive brand features include smart room layouts, communal areas adorned with art and local culture, meeting spaces, living rooms for work and collaboration, grab-and-go dining options, and rooftop terraces.
