Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has signed an agreement with Mori Trust to launch the first Luxury Collection hotel in the Arashiyama district in the western part of Kyoto, Japan.
Being developed as a ryokan-style accommodation, or small Japanese inn, Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, will have 39 guest rooms, each designed in culturally significant hues and traditional motifs.

Amenities will include a lobby lounge, signature restaurant, meeting room, fitness centre and spa, as well as the brand’s signature concierge service that will serve as a portal for travellers to discover the intriguing and less explored sights of Kyoto.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific Operations and Global Initiatives senior vice-president Lothar Pehl said: "With its intimate scale and idyllic setting, the hotel will further strengthen Starwood’s luxury portfolio in Japan.

By GlobalDataOwned by Mori, Suiran is located adjacent to the Hozugawa River, Kameyama Park and the Hogonin and Tenryuji Temples, with Arashiyama houses and the famed Bamboo Grove in the close vicinity.
The hotel will also preserve two original structures, Enmei-kaku and Hasshoken, through extensive renovations to ultimately house a signature restaurant and cafe.
Scheduled to open in March 2015, the hotel will join a portfolio of Starwood’s 23 Luxury Collection hotels in the Asia Pacific region.
The US-based Starwood currently operates 14 hotels across Japan, including the 160-room St Regis Osaka.
