Global hospitality group Marriott International has signed an agreement with V&A Waterfront Holdings to open the first EDITION-branded hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.
Situated within the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Town EDITION property is scheduled to open in 2026.

The planned development will comprise 142 guest rooms and suites, along with facilities such as a rooftop bar, spa, swimming pool, and spaces for meetings and events.
In addition to accommodation, the project includes six private residences under The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION label. These residential units are designed to align with the brand’s contemporary luxury style.
Shanghai-based architecture company Neri & Hu has been appointed to oversee the design, which will partner with South African architect and design company StudioMAS.
The hotel is located by Granger Bay within the V&A Waterfront, an established commercial and tourist district in Cape Town known for its working harbour status and high visitor numbers.

By GlobalDataGuests will have access to amenities in the surrounding area, including a public promenade along the water, event spaces such as an amphitheatre, a heliport, yacht berths, and various dining and retail options.
The new development aims to provide access to key local sites such as Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill, as well as cultural and culinary attractions within Cape Town.
Marriott International Middle East and Africa development senior vice-president Karim Cheltout said: “The signing of our first EDITION Hotel in Africa marks a significant milestone for the company’s growth strategy in the continent.
“The V&A Waterfront is an iconic location, and we are confident that this project will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the market.”
Both Marriott and V&A Waterfront anticipate that the new property will strengthen the city’s reputation as a tourism hub when it opens its doors.
V&A Waterfront chief executive officer David Green said: “We are witnessing growing tourism demand in the city, and The Cape Town EDITION will offer guests a plethora of destination-led experiences and direct access to the world’s leading luxury retail brands, top-class restaurants, charter cruises and other incredible experiences.”
Last month, Marriott revealed plans to open The Lake Como Edition hotel in March 2026.
