The companies held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project. The event was attended by Nobu Hospitality founders Robert De Niro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Meir Teper, and Salboy’s co-founders Fred Done and Simon Ismail.
Construction partner Domis already initiated preliminary works for the mixed-use development with full building work scheduled to commence next year.
The project, which is expected to be completed by 2031, also represents Nobu’s entry into the UK residential market.
The branded residences will occupy the upper levels of the tower and include amenities such as a swimming pool, podium garden, gym, and access to Nobu dining.

By GlobalDataNobu Residences Manchester will offer some of the city’s highest apartments and penthouses.
Salboy plans to begin sales of these residences in 2026.
Interiors for both hotel rooms and apartments are being designed by Bowley James Brindley, integrating Japanese-inspired design with features referencing Manchester’s industrial heritage.
The partnership between Salboy, Domis, and Nobu Hospitality brings the brand’s hospitality concepts to Manchester for the first time.
The tower aims to provide services for local residents as well as visitors seeking hospitality and residential options in Manchester.
The ground floor restaurant will occupy space beneath Grade II listed arches that form part of the site’s original structure.
Nobu Hospitality shareholders chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper said: “Breaking ground in Manchester is a defining moment for Nobu in the UK — our first venture beyond London, and the introduction of Nobu Residences to this market.
“This landmark project — encompassing a hotel, restaurant and residences — marks the debut of Nobu Residences in the United Kingdom. Manchester’s global outlook and dynamic spirit align perfectly with the Nobu brand. We’re proud to bring our signature hospitality, dining and design to the city, and excited to offer both guests and residents an authentic Nobu experience.”
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa opened his first restaurant in Los Angeles in 1987.
After collaborating with Robert De Niro in New York in 1994 to open the first Nobu restaurant, they expanded the brand globally into both restaurants and hotels, including properties in over 50 international locations.
Salboy co-founder Fred Done said: “I’ve been fortunate to experience exceptional cuisine and hospitality around the world, which is why we chose Nobu as our partner to help realise that vision. Best in class, best in creativity, the best of the best. This is our pièce de résistance— exactly what we wanted to bring to Manchester, the city of firsts. This is why it’s so fantastic to welcome Nobu to our wonderful city.”
