Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations, with a share of 18%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the travel and tourism industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings drop by 29% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 17% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 3% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in travel and tourism industry accounted for 50% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Marriott International, Shangri-La Asia, Norwegian Cruise Line, Accor, and Flix. Together they accounted for a combined share of 50% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the travel and tourism industry.

Marriott International posted 1,170 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Shangri-La Asia 976 jobs, Norwegian Cruise Line 753 jobs, Accor 463 jobs, and Flix 355 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 51.42% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the travel and tourism industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 51.42% followed by Canada (4.89%) and China (4.49%). The share represented by the US was 16 percentage points lower than the 66.92% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
