Notably, Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations jobs accounted for a 16% share of the global travel and tourism industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q2 2023, down 47% over the prior quarter.

Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations, with a share of 16%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the travel and tourism industry in Q2 2023, with new job postings drop by 47% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 15% in Q2 2023, with new job postings dropping by 38% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 6% share in Q2 2023, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in travel and tourism industry accounted for 41% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2023 were Marriott International, Flix, Norwegian Cruise Line, Shangri-La Asia, and Hilton Worldwide. Together they accounted for a combined share of 41% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the travel and tourism industry.

Marriott International posted 818 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q2 2023, Flix 356 jobs, Norwegian Cruise Line 320 jobs, Shangri-La Asia 223 jobs, and Hilton Worldwide 176 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 50.36% share of total new job postings, Q2 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the travel and tourism industry in Q2 2023 was in the US with 50.36% followed by the UK (5.67%) and Germany (4.39%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points higher than the 47.76% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
