Iconic Group has opened the Iconic Marjorie Penang, a 298-room hotel in Bayan Lepas, Malaysia, as part of Marriott International’s Tribute Portfolio, reported Penang Property Talk.

Launched on 17 January, the property aims to attract visitors during the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

The property features facilities such as an infinity pool, jacuzzi, a 24-hour fitness centre, and the WellNest Spa.

The hotel design draws influence from Penang’s Baba-Nyonya heritage.

Iconic Group executive director James Tan Cho Chia said: “We are proud to announce the grand opening of Iconic Marjorie Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel that celebrates Penang’s rich culture with a distinctive design inspired by its vibrant heritage.

“Working closely with Marriott International, we have developed a world-class, luxury hotel that immerses travellers in Penang’s captivating beauty and multicultural spirit. As a Tribute Portfolio hotel, Iconic Marjorie joins a growing, global collection of hotels characterised by captivating design and connections to the local community.”

Government officials attended the opening ceremony, including the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Penang's chief minister Chow Kon Yeow, Minister of Tourism Tiong King Sing, and local mayors.

Other attendees included representatives from Tourism Malaysia and several state executive councillors.

Marriott International’s asset management vice-president Yeoh Soo Hin represented the global hospitality company at the event.

The Iconic Marjorie Penang joins Marriott International’s portfolio in Malaysia as it seeks to address anticipated increases in tourist arrivals.

The hotel’s amenities and design highlight local cultural elements while offering a range of services to guests.

The opening forms part of wider efforts to support tourism growth in Penang ahead of future national campaigns.

Tan Cho Chia added: “Penang’s hotel and tourism sector is expected to see a particularly strong year, driven by Visit Malaysia 2026 initiatives and Penang’s growing prominence as a global tourism destination. We recognise and appreciate the Penang state government’s efforts to grow the tourism industry.

“With the grand opening of Iconic Marjorie Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, the Iconic Group is well-positioned to capitalise on the influx of tourists into Penang and contribute to the growth of Penang’s tourism industry.”
