IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Six Senses has finalised a hotel management agreement with Patience Capital Group for a new hotel and residential development at the base of Mount Myoko in Japan’s Suginohara ski resort area.

Construction is expected to begin in April 2026.

Named Six Senses Myoko, the project will include 57 rooms and suites, many featuring private onsens, alongside 21 branded residences situated above the main hotel.

Facilities at the hotel will include two restaurants, a bar and a boutique for fitting services.

A spa area is planned with eight treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities and private onsens available for booking.

Six Senses Myoko will provide year-round access to a range of outdoor activities.

In winter, guests will be able to explore 90ha of skiable terrain, including one of Japan’s longest ski slopes and its highest vertical drop. Warmer months will offer hiking trails and waterfalls, as well as sites considered spiritually significant.

The property's design and architecture are being led by Kengo Kuma and Kume Sekkei and aim to reflect local geography and seasons. The “Golden Wind” concept is intended to capture the seasonal shifts.

Six Senses chief operating officer Neil Palmer said: “Through our partnership with Patience Capital Group, Six Senses Myoko will revitalise this historic destination, providing the setting for a rich tapestry of novel experiences for all seasons.”

The site sits within reach of key regional transport links, approximately three hours by car or two hours by train from Tokyo.

Patience Capital Group has stated that this initiative forms part of broader plans to drive tourism in Myoko Kogen while supporting local economic opportunities.

Patience Capital Group founder, CEO and CIO Ken Chan said: “We are deeply committed to developing Myoko Kogen into a world-class mountain retreat that celebrates the region’s rich natural attributes and cultural heritage. Partnering with IHG Hotels & Resorts to introduce the exclusive Six Senses Myoko marks an exciting milestone in this journey.”

Since its establishment in the 1990s, Six Senses has incorporated principles of sustainability throughout its design, operations and guest experience.

Following its acquisition by IHG in 2019, the company has expanded globally with properties in over 20 countries and 38 under development.
