IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to bring its luxury brand InterContinental to Brisbane, Australia, in partnership with property funds manager ISPT.

The property will undergo a transformation from the former Hilton Brisbane into a hotel and dining venue.

Set to open in June, InterContinental Brisbane is positioned in the city's CBD on Elizabeth Street and is connected to the Queen Street Mall.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Australasia and Pacific development director Cameron Burke said: “We knew it would take a special property to bring our iconic InterContinental brand to life in Brisbane and are incredibly proud to partner with ISPT in support of the rejuvenation of this incredible asset and we look forward to creating an indelible beacon of hospitality for Brisbane.

“The Brisbane hotel market, and South East Queensland region, is entering a golden era fuelled by transformative infrastructure projects, a booming tourism sector and the countdown to the 2032 Olympics. With record investment and a surge in both corporate and leisure demand, the region is fast becoming Australia’s most dynamic hospitality hotspot.”

The opening marks the start of a two-year transformation, through which ISPT aims to integrate the hotel with the Wintergarden and the Regent Theatre, creating a blend of retail, dining, entertainment, and hospitality.

The hotel will offer 321 guest rooms, many boasting Brisbane's skyline views, alongside four restaurants and bars, and conference and events facilities.

ISPT office, industrial, retail and mixed-use development head Tom Waters said: “We are excited to partner with IHG to bring the globally renowned InterContinental brand to Brisbane. We sought a brand that would epitomise luxury, honour the legacy of the building, and become a cornerstone of the vibrant precinct we’re developing.

“Leveraging ISPT’s expertise in placemaking and curating urban experiences, this precinct is set to transform Brisbane’s CBD. It will seamlessly integrate the Regent Theatre, Wintergarden retail and dining offering, alongside a world-class InterContinental Hotel.”

With its opening, InterContinental Brisbane will become the third InterContinental property in Queensland, joining its sister properties at the Hayman Great Barrier Reef and Sanctuary Cove Resort.

IHG currently operates 21 luxury & lifestyle hotels in Australasia, with an additional five properties in the pipeline, including brands such as Kimpton, Vignette Collection, and Hotel Indigo.

Overall, the hotel operator has 69 properties across Australasia under nine different brands, with 26 more properties in the development pipeline.

This announcement follows the August 2022 opening of 108-key InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.
