Mandarin Oriental is set to expand into the South Korean market with the development of a new luxury hotel in the capital city of Seoul.

Set to open in 2030, the 128-room property will be located in the Central Business District, north of the Han River, surrounded by Seoul's cultural landmarks and business centre.

Designer André Fu has been appointed to create the interiors.

Culinary offerings will include a restaurant on the 21st floor with panoramic city views, two ‘distinct’ dining concepts on the 20th floor and a Korean Chef's Counter for immersive dining.

The ground floor will host a bar, lounge and The Mandarin Cake Shop serving as social hubs for guests and locals. Private dining rooms will also be available for private gatherings.

Event facilities will include a ballroom, function rooms and a private outdoor terrace for social and business events.

A spa with Korean healing traditions with modern therapies will also be available at the hotel. It will span four floors, featuring a 25m swimming pool, fitness centre and private outdoor terrace.

Additional amenities will include a golf academy, games room, multiball court and kids' club.

Mandarin Oriental group chief executive Laurent Kleitman said: “Seoul is a dynamic cultural and economic hub, and we are proud to be announcing our entry into this important market.

“Mandarin Oriental, Seoul will reflect our commitment to thoughtful growth, offering an experience that captures the essence of the destination while delivering the legendary service and design our guests expect.”

The opening of Mandarin Oriental, Seoul, aims to strengthen the company’s presence in Asia.

In July 2024, Mandarin Oriental revealed plans to open a new resort and residences on Bali’s Bukit peninsula, Indonesia. The development is scheduled to open in 2027.
