Mews introduces new Multicurrency feature for European hotels

The feature allows international guests to pay in their preferred currency.

Hospitality technology platform Mews has announced the launch of its new Multicurrency feature, now available to customers across Europe.

Aimed at enhancing payment experiences for guests and creating additional revenue streams for hotels, Multicurrency is integrated within Mews' automated payments platform, facilitating transactions without the need for complex setups.

The feature allows international guests to pay in their preferred currency either online or at payment terminals, providing transparent pricing and fees.

The company states that hotels stand to increase revenue by retaining a portion of the conversion fees that typically go to banks.

Following a beta programme with more than 100 hotels and an average guest adoption rate of 43%, the feature is set for a global rollout later this year.

Mews' fintech general manager Susanne Sandler said: “In the past, international payments have been a pain point as guests incurred hidden bank fees, while hotels missed out on revenue from conversion fees. Multicurrency changes all of that.

“Now, hotels benefit as they increase revenue through retaining a portion of conversion fees.  The guest experience is also enhanced with a transparent process that presents the price and fees upfront in a familiar currency.  That’s a win-win.”

Last month, Mews secured $75m in funding to expand its presence in the US and DACH regions.

The investment will also support the acceleration of platform innovation, including AI-powered revenue management capabilities, and drive strategic acquisitions.

Additionally, Pelham Hospitality enlisted Mews to centralise operations and improve guest experiences across its three boutique properties in Cape Cod, US.
