Mountain Shore Properties has announced plans to open the Hill Hall boutique hotel in Fayetteville, West Virginia, US, in mid-2026.

The project will be located within a former school campus, comprising the 1923 stone building that previously housed Fayetteville High School and the mid-century structure formerly used as Fayetteville Middle School.

Hill Hall will focus on preserving architectural features while introducing residential design elements.

Situated minutes from New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, the property is planned to offer 40 guest rooms spread across the two restored school buildings.

The initiative is led by Mountain Shore Properties founder and CEO Stephen Wendell and chairman Charlie Wendell.

Stephen Wendell said: “Hill Hall is personal for me because it's rooted in the people and the place that shaped our family. My grandmother believed Fayetteville was worth preserving, and she spent years doing the work to protect its character and its place in history.

“We're carrying that forward by bringing new life to this historic campus with a hotel and a restaurant that feel warm, welcoming, and genuinely connected to the community. Our hope is that Hill Hall becomes a place locals feel proud of, and a place travellers can return to after a day in the Gorge and truly feel at home.”

Hill Hall will also feature Patsy’s, a restaurant named after Stephen Wendell’s grandmother. It will offer regional recipes and cater to both travellers and local residents.

Public spaces at the hotel will include contemporary gathering areas such as the Mural Room lounge, with artwork by West Virginia artist Nichole Westfall.

Zmmr will lead Hill Hall's brand identity, with Mountain Shore Properties' head of design Mae Pate, overseeing design direction.

Hill Hall will join Design Hotels’ collection of independent hotels and plans participation in the Marriott Bonvoy global travel loyalty programme.
