Mövenpick resort in Phu Quoc obtains Green Globe certification

The resort adopted initiatives such as reducing plastic and water usage to reduce its carbon footprint.

Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc and Mövenpick Villas & Residences Phu Quoc has received its first Green Globe certification for sustainability efforts.

The resort is located on Ong Lang Beach in Cua Duong Village, Phu Quoc City, Vietnam.

MIK Group developed and manages the resort, while Accor Hotel operates it according to international five-star standards.

The certification acknowledges the resort’s efforts to introduce measures to reduce their environmental impact, responsible natural resource management and fostering sustainable practices.

Mövenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc and Mövenpick Villas & Residences Phu Quoc general manager Claudio Schibli said: “Being awarded the Green Globe certification is a proud moment for our entire team. But more importantly, it’s a reminder that sustainability is an ongoing journey, one we must walk together with our guests, our team and our community.”

The resort’s management team has eliminated single-use plastics across the property and opted for eco-friendly alternatives in guest rooms and public areas.

Green Globe stated that paper-based products have replaced plastic straws, cups and bags in the resort’s dining outlets, while takeaway containers now use bagasse material instead of plastic.

Water refill stations have also been installed throughout the properties to further reduce plastic waste while allowing guests and staff to refill bottles as needed.

In October 2022, the resorts replaced all single-use plastic water bottles with reusable glass bottles.

In the first half of 2025, this sustainability effort prevented more than 209,000 plastic bottles from entering landfills or oceans, which corresponds to avoiding 17.33 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Further operational adjustments include a towel card programme launched at the end of 2024. Under this system, guests receive one pool towel card at check-in and are encouraged to use towels more efficiently.

This initiative saved 2,296 wash cycles and more than 551,000 litres of water in the first half of 2025.

Schibli added: “We believe that the future of hospitality is responsible, thoughtful and regenerative, and we are honoured to be leading the way."
