Scandic has announced the development of a new Scandic Go hotel in Turku, Finland, expanding its brand’s presence in the country.

The addition of this 138-room hotel will complement the company's regional offering and is anticipated to cater to the expected surge in tourism, business, and cultural activities.

The former Scandic Atrium will be partially converted to house the new Scandic Go in Turku, with the main Atrium building remaining under development.

Renovation work is scheduled to begin next month, with the goal of diversifying the brand's portfolio by offering cost effective, and sustainable options for accommodation.

Scandic Hotels Group president and CEO Jens Mathiesen said: “Our continued expansion of Scandic Go in Turku is perfectly timed, given that the city is actively investing in urban development with major projects, such as building an event arena that will attract business activity and leisure visitors.

“Our new hotel will also meet the increasing demand from a new, more conscious generation of hotel guests.”

Scheduled to reopen in the latter half of 2026, the hotel will embody the Scandic Go concept through its strategic location near key city landmarks and its intelligent design.

Scandic Hotels portfolio development senior vice-president Jesper Engman said: “We look forward to opening more Scandic Go hotels at attractive hotel destinations.

“Turku, which is an exciting, rapidly growing city, is important to us, and I’m convinced that our new Scandic Go will be the perfect complement to our existing offering.”

The upcoming Scandic Go hotel will be situated between the redeveloped harbour and the university area, offering convenient parking, city bus and bike access.

Turku serves as both a destination and a gateway to the Finnish archipelago, with its status as the country's fourth-largest region and a hub for international cruise, passenger, and cargo traffic with Sweden.

Once operational, Scandic's room capacity in Turku will reach 881 rooms.

The new Scandic Go will adhere to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel standards, reflecting the company's focus on environmental sustainability.

Further expansions of the Scandic Go brand are planned in Finland, with new hotels in Oulu and Helsinki, among other locations.

In related news, Scandic earlier announced a significant refurbishment project for the Scandic Pohjanhovi in Rovaniemi, northern Finland.
