Shangri-La Group has launched two new hotels within a single complex at the Shanghai Hongqiao transportation hub, introducing both Shangri-La Hongqiao Airport and Traders Hongqiao Airport.

The development marks the company’s fifth hotel project in the city and demonstrates its strategy of placing multiple brands under one roof to serve a wider range of guests.

The opening also coincides with the worldwide introduction of the updated Traders brand, which incorporates advanced technology to meet the needs of business travellers.

According to Shangri-La Group, its dual-branded property offers direct connections to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport’s Terminal 2, the high-speed rail station, and the city metro network.

This gives seamless access to downtown Shanghai and key Yangtze River Delta cities such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.

The Shangri-La Hongqiao Airport has 91 rooms and suites, each featuring floor-to-ceiling quadruple‑glazed windows and open‑plan layouts. It also offers Horizon Club privileges, including curated breakfasts and evening turndown service.

The hotel also offers nearly 3,000m² of event space next to the National Exhibition and Convention Center, targeting organisers of weddings and conferences.

Accommodation at Traders Hongqiao Airport consists of 520 rooms, with amenities aimed at travellers facing long layovers or delayed flights.

The hotel also debuts a revised brand identity featuring accelerated check-in and check-out processes. According to Shangri-La Group, guests at the hotel can complete the check-in/out processes in seconds, receiving room information on their smartphones and accessing e-invoicing upon departure.

In addition, Traders Hongqiao Airport employs robots to deliver luggage and prepare coffee, with technology allowing for rapid reservation of meeting facilities through an online platform.

Shangri-La Group group chief marketing officer and China CEO Chris Tung said: “This dual-branded hotel represents a significant milestone in our journey of innovation. Through our ‘luxury + efficiency’ dual-engine strategy, we have achieved operational synergy and enhanced the service standards for guest stays at the Hongqiao international hub.

“At the same time, the refreshed Traders brand, with its focus on technological sophistication and smart efficiency, sets a new benchmark for meeting the evolving needs of today’s business travellers.”
