Pixiu Investments, Woodbine Development and Hyatt Hotels have announced the completion of a multi-phase restoration of The Driskill Hotel in Austin, US.

The refurbishment comes ahead of the hotel’s 140th anniversary in December and involved the introduction of 189 updated rooms and suites, a new 2,800ft² ballroom, along with refreshed lobby and common areas.

The project also sees the launch of a new culinary programme in collaboration with MML Hospitality.

The Driskill general manager Markus Puereschitz said: “Today, we are celebrating alongside our partners at Pixiu Investments, Woodbine Development and Hyatt as we usher in this next era of The Driskill Hotel, and we invite all of Austin to join us.

“We have taken great care to preserve that legacy while ensuring its century-long character continues for decades to come. We are proud of what this new experience entails and look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to rediscover the property.”

The renovation work was led by Dallas-based design company SWOON, the Studio, with Lambert McGuire Design overseeing the lobby and restaurant spaces, and Clayton Korte acting as Architect of Record.

Guest rooms in the 1929 Tower were updated with contemporary designs while the original Historic Guest Rooms retained a traditional style.

The Heritage Suite, previously used by the US President Lyndon Johnson, is among the historic spaces restored during the project.

Dining additions include The Driskill Grill and Bar, The Victorian, and a refreshed 1886 Café & Bakery.

Event spaces now include the newly created Citadel Ballroom, capable of seating up to 200 guests.

The Driskill remains part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a group of independent hotels.
