Global hospitality group Hyatt Hotels has appointed Jason Ballard as global brand leader to oversee the growth phase of its Essentials portfolio.
Hyatt has broadened the scope of its Essentials portfolio with several recent developments. These include the signing of more than 20 new Hyatt Select agreements this year and reaching a total of 70 hotel agreements since the launch of the Hyatt Studios brand.

These updates reflect the ongoing growth of the Essentials portfolio in additional markets throughout the Americas.
Half of the US-based Essentials portfolio deals planned for 2025 represent entry into previously untapped markets, a development that indicates sustained interest from hotel developers.
Brands within the Essentials portfolio include Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Select, Hyatt House, Unscripted by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Studios, and UrCove.
These offerings are structured to provide owners with operational flexibility and consistent returns in the select-service segment.

Ballard recently led the launch of Hyatt Studios and managed its inaugural opening in Mobile, Alabama.
Hyatt Americas group president Pete Sears said: “Jason’s leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our franchise capabilities and establishing the Hyatt Studios brand as a standout success while setting a new benchmark for flexible, owner-focused select-service hospitality.”
Recent activities within the portfolio feature the opening of a second Hyatt Studios property in Huntsville, Alabama.
New hotels also include Hyatt Place Cancun Airport and Hyatt Place Merida / Via Montejo in Mexico, plus a location at Toronto Airport in Canada.
Future expansion includes a planned Hyatt Place in Missoula, Montana, which is scheduled to open in 2027 as part of broader US market entry initiatives.
The company indicates that the extended-stay focused Hyatt Studios brand has secured deals in various locations since 2023. These include Macon (Georgia), Danville (Virginia), Frankfort and Elizabethtown (Kentucky), Glacier Country (Montana), and Lafayette (Indiana).
This trend continues with development across other Essentials brands; Unscripted by Hyatt opened Latitude Suites in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and plans further hotels in Allentown, Pennsylvania; and Durango, Colorado; for 2026 and 2027.
