Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Taj hotel in Weligama, Sri Lanka, marking an expansion of its presence in the country.

The Taj Weligama project is a greenfield development in partnership with Beryll Group that will offer 220 keys, including 80 luxury apartments.

The beachfront resort will be located in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province and will provide views of the Indian Ocean. Facilities will include an all-day dining restaurant, two speciality restaurants, a beach bar and grill, a bar and lounge, or a deli.

The property will also feature Taj’s J Wellness Circle offering remedies, an entertainment zone, a kids’ playroom, a swimming pool and a gym.

For events and gatherings, the hotel will offer a banquet hall and convention facilities spanning over 9,000ft², as well as meeting rooms and exclusive lawns.

IHCL managing director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said: “Weligama is shaping into one of Sri Lanka’s prominent coastal destinations, supported by the rise of surfing, wellness and nature-led travel.

Weligama is known for its crescent-shaped bay, surf-friendly waters and coastal atmosphere.

In December 2025, IHCL expanded its presence in Bhutan with the opening of Taj Paro Resort & Spa.
