The agreement signing, attended by Marriott International global president and CEO Anthony Capuano, outlines a plan for tourism development in Vietnam.

The collaboration involves the introduction of eight brands across varying segments and models, which include Marriott Hotels, W Hotels, Le Méridien and Westin. In addition, W Hotels and Moxy Hotels will make their debut in Vietnam under this agreement.

Sun Group and Marriott International previously worked together on luxury projects in Phu Quoc such as the JW Marriott Phu Quoc, which opened in 2017.

The ongoing addition of Marriott management brands marks a broadening partnership between the companies. The expanded portfolio covers midscale to premium segments, as well as family-oriented, youth-focused, lifestyle, and MICE [meeting, incentives, conferences and exhibitions] hotel models.

Marriott International Asia Pacific (excluding China) president Rajeev Menon said: “Vietnam is emerging as one of the most dynamic tourism markets in the world. The number of hotels managed by Marriott International in Vietnam has doubled since 2022. Partnering with Sun Group – one of the highly visionary destination developers, signing an additional ten hotels this time – helps us continue to affirm our long-term commitment to this market.”

Sun Group board chairman Dang Minh Truong said: “When global brands are integrated into the destination ecosystem, the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism will be significantly enhanced.”

He added that diversification will help expand the customer base and increase spending levels.

Most projects will be launched in Phu Quoc with an integrated approach to tourism, including resorts, entertainment, and infrastructure. Investments include new air connections and cooperation with Changi Airports International for a “destination airport” model at Phu Quoc International Airport.

Marriott International’s network of more than 270 million Bonvoy members is expected to support international promotion for Vietnamese destinations.

During this month, Marriott International entered an agreement with Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners to add The Resort at Kapalua Bay in Maui, Hawai’i, to its luxury portfolio.
