At launch, the company has highlighted properties including the Zion Wildflower Resort in Utah, the Asheville River Cabins in North Carolina, and The Lodge at Pico Bonito in Honduras, which will soon be part of the portfolio. These locations grant guests access to activities including hiking, stargazing, river tubing, and rainforest exploration.

The Backdrop collection responds to shifting travel preferences, especially among younger demographics.

More travellers are pursuing experiences that prioritise time in natural environments. This shift aligns with the recent growth of the glamping sector, which, according to market data, was valued at $3.79bn last year and is forecast to reach $7.87bn by 2033.

The market’s expansion is attributed to the demand for combining modern amenities with access to nature.

Backdrop properties are also designed as venues for corporate events and personal celebrations. Sites in the collection offer indoor and outdoor event spaces, on-site kitchen facilities, and designated areas for presentations.

These features support meetings, workshops, and gatherings in natural environments, aiming to facilitate both work-related and social connections.

From an operational perspective, the Backdrop collection allows independent outdoor and adventure properties to join the WorldHotels network while retaining their individual identities.

The company provides support, including a guest management platform, bulk purchasing advantages, and access to WorldHotels Rewards, which currently has 66 million members. Owners also receive insurance resources intended to protect their businesses.

WorldHotels is currently engaging in discussions to further expand Backdrop’s global footprint, with locations under consideration from Vietnam to Africa and Australia.

WorldHotels president Ron Pohl said: “Today’s traveller is seeking more than a getaway; they’re looking for connection and purpose. It’s about meaningful moments in local neighbourhoods and journeys designed to inspire a deeper connection.

“At WorldHotels, we’re committed to helping our guests discover the perfect basecamp for exploration, whether it be personal or professional. WorldHotels Backdrop brings to life our vision of allowing guests to fully experience remarkable outdoor environments while still enjoying the elevated hospitality that sets WorldHotels apart.”

In October 2024, BWH Hotels partnered with hospitality cloud provider Mews in a strategic move to enhance its operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
