Located adjacent to the city’s central railway station, the property will initially operate as Hotel Schwerin City Center by Leonardo Hotels.

The venue comprises 180 rooms and an on-site restaurant.

It also includes seven conference spaces aimed at commercial clients and individual business travellers. Several of these rooms can be combined to host up to 140 delegates.

The property will undergo an extensive refurbishment. The work includes modernising all guest rooms, bathrooms and public areas, as well as the installation of a new air-conditioning system.

Once the upgrades are finished, the property will join the group’s core portfolio under the name Leonardo Schwerin City Center.

Leonardo Hotels Central Europe development and project management vice-president Jan Heringa said: “Our market entry in Schwerin will bolster our presence in Germany by adding a further attractive destination.

“This takeover will allow us to grow our portfolio in a targeted manner. Once the renovations have been concluded, the city will become yet another location at which guests will be able to enjoy the usual quality and hospitality of Leonardo Hotels.

“We would like to thank the partners involved for their cooperation and for the trust they have shown.”

Last month, Leonardo Hotels acquired two additional German properties in Regensburg and Kiel.
