The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 1.7% decline in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by A.P. Moller – Maersk’s 9.63% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.58% when compared with June 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.59% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, down 0.58% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 1.88% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 4.75% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 61.75% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in July 2021, a 23.34% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.06% in July 2021, down 26.56% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 10.47% share in July 2021, a flat growth over the previous month, and Computer and Information Research Scientists with a 5.39% share in July 2021 and drop of 21.74% over June 2021.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 5.11% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

A.P. Moller – Maersk posted 193 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a rise of 47.33% over the previous month, followed by Walt Disney with 152 jobs and a 6.75% decline. Uber Technologies with 131 IT jobs and Expedia Group with 95 jobs, recorded a 22.02% decline and a 15.85% growth, respectively, while DSV Panalpina recorded a 6.1% growth with 87 job postings during July 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 42.09% share, which marked a 28.78% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 29.63%, registering a 6.75% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 25.39% share and a 7.62% decline over June 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.34% and a month-on-month drop of 28.79%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.55%, registering a 42.11% drop over the previous month.
