The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 5.4% rise in IT hiring activity in June 2021 over the previous month, led by BCD Travel Services’s 10.58% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity an increased 13.69% when compared with May 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.67% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in June 2021, down 0.8% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2021 were 3.52% higher compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 6.83% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 65.73% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in June 2021, a 20.73% an increase over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.68% in June 2021, up 34.52% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 8.8% share in June 2021, decline of 15.2% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Research Scientists with a 5.31% share in June 2021 and rise of 72.97% over May 2021.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 90.24% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during June 2021 over May 2021.

BCD Travel Services posted 255 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a rise of 5000% over the previous month, followed by Uber Technologies with 168 jobs and a 40% rise. Walt Disney with 140 IT jobs and A.P. Moller – Maersk with 131 jobs, recorded a 3.7% an increase and a 1.5% drop, respectively, while Booking Holdings recorded a 405.88% growth with 86 job postings during June 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in June 2021 with a 47.8% share, which marked a 32.11% growth over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 25.23%, registering a 10.72% month-on-month decline.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 23.03% share and a 19.35% rise over May 2021.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.78% and a month-on-month growth of 63.41%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.16%, registering a 40% an increase over the previous month.
