The value marked a decrease of 46.9% over the previous month and a drop of 61.03% when compared with the last 12-month average of $7.64bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 16% over the last 12-month average with 109 deals against the average of 94 deals.
In value terms, Asia-Pacific led the activity with deals worth $1.54bn.

The top five tourism & leisure industry deals accounted for 58.7% of the overall value during January 2019.
The combined value of the top five tourism & leisure industry deals stood at $1.75bn, against the overall value of $2.98bn recorded for the month. The top announced tourism & leisure industry deal tracked by GlobalData in January 2019 was Japan Hotel REIT Investment’s $575.62m asset transaction with Hulic.
In second place was Elliott Management and GFI Capital Resources Group’s private equity deal with Jack Parker Construction for $420m and in third place was Accel, Charles River Ventures, Craft Ventures, Fidelity Investments, Greycroft Partners, Index Ventures, Tusk Ventures and Upfront Ventures’ $300m venture financing of Bird Rides.
WayDrive Holdings’ $257.43m acquisition of Lion City Rentals and Ashford Hospitality Trust’s asset transaction with for $195m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
