Starwood to open first Luxury Collection hotel in Ukraine
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide will open a new Hotel Bristol, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Odessa, Ukraine, in 2014.
Owned by LARK (Vertex Hotel Group) and Bristol-Krasnaya, the new property will be the first Luxury Collection hotel in Ukraine.
The 112-room Hotel Bristol is currently under renovation, following which it will feature a restaurant, a bar and around 10,000ft² of event and meeting space for celebrations and business meetings.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and Middle East acquisitions and development senior vice president Bart Carnahan said this latest addition to the company’s luxury portfolio reinforces its commitment to growing in Eastern Europe with a strong focus on conversions.
Two Australian hotels to use Guestline’s Rezlynx web-based PMS
Two Australian hotels, Sydney Boulevard Hotel and the Arts Hotel, are to deploy and implement the Rezlynx web-based property management system (PMS) of Guestline, a UK-based privately-held provider of hospitality software solutions.
The 270-room Sydney Boulevard Hotel will be the first of the properties to replace its existing PMS with Guestline’s Rezlynx web-based PMS and distribution manager products, and the Sydney Arts Hotel will be Guestline’s second Australian installation.

Holiday Inn Express debuts in Singapore
Holiday Inn Express, a brand of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), has opened its first hotel in Singapore, the Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road.
Located close to Somerset and Orchard MRT stations with restaurants, bars, medical centres, shopping malls and entertainment options in the vicinity, the hotel is suitable for business or leisure travellers.
Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road features 221 rooms equipped with quality bedding and a choice of soft or firm pillows, and power showers in the bathrooms.
Marriott to introduce mobile check-in at 325 hotels in US, Canada
Marriott Hotels, a brand of Marriott International, is to introduce mobile check-in option at all of its 325 hotels in the US and Canada in summer 2013.
The mobile check-in feature, which is currently being used at 31 Marriott-brand hotels, is part of the free Marriott mobile app that makes check-in simple.
The app allows Marriott Rewards members to check-in after 4pm the day before arrival and get automatic notification about their room status.
As the members’ credit card information is already stored in the Marriott Rewards profiles, they just need to take the pre-programmed key card to enter their booked room.
IHG, Pro Invest to develop 15 Holiday Inn Express hotels in Australia
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Pro Invest Group have entered into a multiple development deal to develop 15 new Holiday Inn Express hotels in Australia.
To build and operate a portfolio of 15 hotels, Pro Invest has generated a $150m fund and created a property development and hotel operating firm.
The 15 hotels will have approximately 2,150 rooms and will be built in central business, suburban and airport locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
Mobile devices account for 21% of consumer online searches for hotels in UK
UK consumers made a total of 2.5 million online searches for hotels in May 2013, 21% of which were made on mobile devices, according to the latest report ‘Hotels Sector Report – Issue 16’ by London-based independent digital marketing agency Greenlight.
The report shows the most popular search keywords used by consumers on the Google UK site to search for hotels in May and also lists out the most visible sites for those searches on both computers (laptops/desktops) and mobile devices (tablets and smartphones).
According to the report, ‘hotels’ was the most used search term accounting for six percent of the total 522,115 online searches made for hotels using mobile devices. The second most popular search term was ‘cheap hotels,’ which accounted for four percent of all the searches made via mobiles.
Hilton Worldwide reaches milestone of operating 4,000 hotels
Hilton Worldwide has reached a new milestone of operating 4,000 hotels with the opening of Hilton Shijiazhuang hotel in the Hebei province of China.
The company now has a portfolio of 35 hotels in Greater China, with more than 120 hotels and 42,000 rooms in the pipeline in the region.
Overall, the company has around 1,000 hotels in development, with more than 176,000 rooms worldwide.
Best Western opens three new hotels in West Africa
Best Western International, an Arizona-based privately held hotel company, has expanded its West African portfolio by opening three new hotels in Nigeria and Ghana.
The 104-room Best Western Plus Ajuji Hotel in Abuja is located in the new Gudu District and features three halls and two meeting rooms for meetings and special events.
The Best Western Starfire Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria has 40 bedrooms, including 24 standard rooms, 14 superior rooms and two junior suites.
The Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi, Ghana, features 200 guest rooms, including an exclusive business wing, chalets, roof-top penthouses and suites, including junior and presidential.
