Asia-Pacific witnessed a 9.8% drop in IT hiring activity in the travel & tourism industry in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.25% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 5.37% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2022, registering a decrease of 0.8% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 56.25% in August 2022, a 20.14% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 18.03% in August 2022, marking a 10.29% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 12.74% in August 2022, a 23.26% rise from July 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 8.41% in August 2022, a 38.6% decline over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 17.15% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s travel & tourism industry during August 2022 over previous month.

A.P. Moller – Maersk posted 83 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a decline of 14.43% over the previous month, followed by Booking Holdings with 47 jobs and a 74.07% growth. Capital A with 34 IT jobs and Genting Group with 33 jobs, recorded a 56.41% drop and a 135.71% rise, respectively, while The Walt Disney recorded a 48.28% decline with 30 job postings during August 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s travel & tourism industry

India commanded a leading presence in the region’s travel & tourism industry IT hiring activity with a 41.11% share in August 2022, a 24.34% decrease over July 2022. Malaysia featured next with a 14.9% share, down 34.74% over the previous month. Australia recorded a 9.62% share, a drop of 29.82% compared with July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 61.06%, down by 15.61% from July 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.88% share, registered a decline of 17.27% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 17.07% share, up 14.52% over July 2022.
