Canada’s travel & tourism industry registered a 12.1% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 12.01% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 7.06% share in December 2021, recording an increase of 0.13% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s travel & tourism industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.04% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s travel & tourism industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 68.63% in December 2021, registering a 28.57% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 11.76% share, a decrease of 50% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 7.84%, registering a 33.33% rise from November 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 5.88%, up 50% over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 56.52% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s travel & tourism industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

Sonder posted 9 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 800% over the previous month, followed by Cineplex with 9 jobs and a 50% growth. Flight Centre Travel Group with 8 IT jobs and Canadian Pacific Railway with 5 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 16.67% decrease, respectively, while Transat A.T. recorded an increase of 150% with 5 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 54.9%, down by 46.15% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 25.49% share, registered a decline of 31.58% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 19.61% share, down 9.09% over November 2021.
