The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 4.5% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 17.78% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.1% when compared with June 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.59% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, down 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 5.77% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 13.9% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.97% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in July 2022, a 2.88% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.13% in July 2022, flat growth over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.02% share in July 2022, a growth of 3.76% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.98% share in July 2022 and a rise of 11.24% over June 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 17.93% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during July 2022 over June 2022.
The Walt Disney posted 392 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a rise of 9.5% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 168 jobs and a 22.63% growth. Deutsche Lufthansa with 130 IT jobs and Aimbridge Hospitality with 100 jobs, recorded an 80.56% growth and a 12.28% drop, respectively, while Expedia Group recorded a 41.82% rise with 78 job postings during July 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 52.74% share, which marked a 0.6% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 26.44%, registering a 21.46% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.87% share and an 18.59% drop over June 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.27% and a month-on-month rise of 3.7%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.68%, registering an 11.76% decrease over the previous month.
