The global travel & tourism industry noticed an 8.7% drop in IT hiring activity in June 2022 over the previous month, led by The Walt Disney’s 13.98% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 5.5% when compared with May 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.76% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in June 2022, down 0.17% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2022 were 13.42% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 32.47% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive travel & tourism IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.74% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in June 2022, a 33.75% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.19% in June 2022, down 11.79% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.27% share in June 2022, a decline of 35.94% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.9% share in June 2022 and a drop of 20.81% over May 2022.

Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in June 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 36.46% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during June 2022 over May 2022.

The Walt Disney posted 245 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a drop of 20.2% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 119 jobs and a 36.36% decline. Aimbridge Hospitality with 100 IT jobs and Uber Technologies with 60 jobs, recorded a 222.58% growth and a 71.96% drop, respectively, while Booking Holdings recorded a 67.23% drop with 58 job postings during June 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in June 2022 with a 49.97% share, which marked a 27.78% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 25.1%, registering a 21.15% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 22.65% share and a 33.16% drop over May 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.43% and a month-on-month drop of 57.63%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.86%, registering a 44.44% decrease over the previous month.
