The global travel & tourism industry noticed a 9.2% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by Walt Disney’s 10.73% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The travel & tourism industry’s overall hiring activity declined 8.48% when compared with September 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.48% share of the global travel & tourism industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.09% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 14.78% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 30.84% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 45.21% emerged as the top IT occupation in the travel & tourism hiring activity in October 2022, a 29.72% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 26.51% in October 2022, down 6.26% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.5% share in October 2022, a decline of 11.11% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.47% share in October 2022 and a drop of 17.96% over September 2022.
Top five travel & tourism companies by recruitment activity in October 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 17.91% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global travel & tourism industry during October 2022 over September 2022.
Walt Disney posted 206 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 33.33% over the previous month, followed by A.P. Moller – Maersk with 166 jobs and a 21.7% decline. Booking Holdings with 103 IT jobs and Deutsche Bahn with 79 jobs, recorded a 17.05% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Aimbridge Hospitality recorded a 3.9% drop with 74 job postings during October 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in travel & tourism industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global travel & tourism IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 50.31% share, which marked a 22.47% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 27.55%, registering a 14.4% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.22% share and a 24.54% drop over September 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 2.55% and a month-on-month drop of 20.97%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.36%, registering a 50% decrease over the previous month.
