Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry registered a 33.2% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 11.35% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.96% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 3.77% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 86.67% in September 2022, registering a 23.81% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 10% share, a decrease of 50% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 1.67%, registering a flat growth from August 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 1.67%, down 75% over the previous month.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Malaysia’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 3.28% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Genting posted 36 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 200% over the previous month, followed by Genting Group with 14 jobs and a 50% drop. Capital A with 6 IT jobs and Booking Holdings with 2 jobs, recorded a 70% decline and a 100% growth, respectively, while Hilton Worldwide Holdings recorded a flat growth with 1 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.67%, up by 6.25% from August 2022. Entry Level positions with a 40% share, registered an increase of 4.35% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 3.33% share, down 71.43% over August 2022.
