Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry registered a 25.8% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 19.37% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the travel & tourism industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 10.21% share in October 2021, recording a decrease of 1.33% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 90.38% in October 2021, registering a 42.42% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 7.69% share, an increase of 300% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 1.92%, registering a 66.67% decline from September 2021.

Top five travel & tourism companies in Malaysia’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 36.84% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s travel & tourism industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

AirAsia Group posted 20 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a rise of 185.71% over the previous month, followed by Genting Group with 17 jobs and a 29.17% drop. Genting with 12 IT jobs and A.P. Moller – Maersk with 2 jobs, recorded a 200% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Expedia Group recorded a flat growth with 1 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 76.92%, up by 53.85% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with an 11.54% share, registered an increase of 100% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with an 11.54% share, down 40% over September 2021.
